Antiyano Progresivo
Tracklist
Between the late 1960s and mid-1980s, musicians across Aruba, Curacao and Sint Maarten built a tight-knit, largely overlooked network of sound that spanned the psychedelic funk of Sugar Ice Tea and Cryptus Confession, the Latin flair of visiting Puerto Rican star Mon Rivera, Surinamese-inflected soul and the garage rock of Los Honda. Antiyano Progresivo taps into that era against a backdrop of rapid transformation from oil, migration and tourism, which all reshaped the islands, while African, Latin American and European traditions fused with local forms like tambu and tumba. The music here channels cultural pride and self-determination, set alongside Curacao's 1969 Trinta di Mei uprising and rising Black Power movements. A real historical document.
