For Once In My Life
Light in the Attic reissues Nancy Sinatra’s self-titled 1969 album — a transitional work that bridges her chart-topping Sixties era with the bolder experiments to come. Created after Lee Hazlewood’s sudden departure, the record finds Sinatra rebuilding her sound with arranger Billy Strange and then-rising songwriter Mac Davis. The result is an adventurous mix of country-soul, orchestral pop and late-night groove, from the tender ‘Memories’ to a spellbinding, blues-tinged take on The Doors’ ‘Light My Fire’. Often overlooked yet deeply revealing, Nancy Sinatra stands as a fascinating snapshot of reinvention and resilience at the close of the decade.
