Since 2014's Everybody Down, Kae Tempest has delivered sharp social commentary, but their fifth LP dives deeper into their personal journey. The opening track, 'I Stand On The Line,' introduces their transition from non-binary in 2020 to now identifying as a trans man. Tracks like 'Statue in a Square' showcase newfound confidence through grime-influenced swagger and poignant hooks. 'Know Yourself' layers past and present selves in a powerful internal dialogue and overall Self Titled weaves identity, transformation and societal critique into profound and urgent tracks supported by contributions from Young Fathers, Neil Tennant and producer Fraser T. Smith.
