Jackie McLean's Vertigo showcases the saxophonist at his most versatile, drawing primarily from a 1963 quintet session that spans hard bop, slow blues, sophisticated funk and adventurous post-bop. Joined by Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, Butch Warren and Tony Williams, McLean leads a set of performances that highlight both the group's technical precision and restless creativity. A compelling snapshot of a pivotal moment in Blue Note jazz, Vertigo captures five musicians pushing beyond genre boundaries while remaining deeply rooted in swing and groove.
